Microsoft Security Essentials is the Microsoft’s free, real-time consumer antimalware solution for fighting viruses, spyware, rootkits, and Trojans. It comes in three flavors: for Windows XP 32-bit (3.96MB), for Windows Vista/7 32-bit (3.96MB), and for Windows Vista/7 64-bit (4.64MB).
Microsoft Security Sssentials was previously referred to as codename Morro when Microsoft first revealed it in November 2008. The announcement came as the company surprised everyone by saying it would be phasing out the pay-for Windows Live OneCare in favor of a free security solution. Today’s news is perfectly in line with the software giant’s plan to release the final product this fall.
